Recently, my wife and I visited a local zoo. The weather was beautiful, temperatures in the mid 80’s and plenty of sunshine. Since the weather was nice, there was a whole bunch of people who had the same idea — to go to a place we call the zoo.
So, my mind wanders as it always does as I was seeing the various animals in their caged areas. Do we treat God as something to be viewed from a safe distance? Do we put God in a cage? And if we do put Him in a cage, do we only stroll by His cage for a short glimpse of His beauty? Then finally, how does He feel about that?
The topic of my blogs is “To Find the Presence of the One True God.” Honestly, I thought I would be writing about my experiences and displaying my expertise and wisdom through my blogs, but God has used my blogs to show me more of who He is — His depth of character like His love, mercy, grace, truth, kindness, justice and patience. These character traits are the ones He wants reflected in our lives. Actually, I believe these were programmed into us. Unfortunately, when sin entered the world with the first man and woman, we got altered. They are not easily displayed or naturally flowing from our presence as God has intended them to be. Yet, sin never had any affect on God’s own character traits as He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
So, because of the sin issue has God just abandoned us? Absolutely not. God has designed a way for humanity to know Him. But we need to stop looking at Him through the bars of a cage. Why? Because there is no cage in this vast universe that can contain Him. We need to set Him up in our lives as the King of Kings, the Lion of Judah!
“Is He safe? Absolutely not, but He is good.” – C.S. Lewis
I’m learning that God intends us to live as children of the King displaying the attributes discussed in the above paragraph. Which is impossible in our own strength, but God provides us power with the Holy Spirit who can work with us in developing Godly attributes right now on our time on this earth. God has no favorites. He opens up His Kingdom to all who desire to be a part of it. No matter your race, your past history, your gender, your age or your wealth status. What is required? Turning from your sinful ways and embracing the One True King.
Let’s put the King where He needs to be – outside of this vast universe of ours as Creator and leave the creation in the hands of a quite capable God. I believe if you have this mindset, it will more properly align your life to the God-given purpose you were called to. Not an animal to be viewed upon in a cage, but to roam freely without recourse in the wonderful kingdom of God and no longer confined to cages caused by the effects of sin. For God never intended you to live in a place called the zoo.
