A Million Little Things

Imagine with me, a hand covering the vastness of the ocean, using the ocean depths as an inkwell. This hand starts to scroll into the canvas of the blue sky the reasons why He loves you. When the ocean waters are drained dry by all His writings, totaling a million little things, He still wasn’t done completing all His thoughts about you. My friend, this is no exaggeration of the depths of His love.

We are not puppets on a string but are “unceasing spiritual beings with an eternal destiny in God’s great universe,” a quote taken from Dallas Willard.  We have the opportunity this very moment to know God and to continually gain understanding and wisdom from Him as well as experiencing His love, mercy and grace.

You see, the more I plunge into the depths of God’s love. The more magic occurs. Not magic in like the dark magic. But magic like the day I proposed to my wife or the day my daughters entered into this world – the good magic.

There is a quote from the movie “Sleepless in Seattle” that has stuck with me since the movie was released in the 90s.  To put this quote in the proper setting, Sam Baldwin (Tom Hanks) ,a recent widower, is recalling when he first met his true love.  When asked the question, “What made your wife so special?” this was his response:

“It was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together, and I knew it. I knew it the first time I touched her. It was like coming home, only to no home I’d ever known. I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew it. It was like magic.”

Have you found that magic that you have been looking for? Do you want to experience God’s magic? He’s holding out His hand asking you to take it. Once you do, it’s like coming home, only to a home you have never experienced before. It’s like magic!
