As the Sun Rises: A Poem

During creation, You made the Sun,

And Light flooded the earth,

And the Sun Rises.

The first man and woman listened to the deceiver, the Father of Lies, falling into sin,

And Darkness flooded the earth.

And the Sun Rises.

Transforming, taking on the form of a baby boy, You descended,

And Light flooded the earth,

And the Sun Rises.

A host of heavenly angels declared Your birth, praising Your name,

And Light flooded the earth,

And the Sun Rises.

As You grew, the iniquities of all mankind were laid upon You, we pierced You for our transgressions,

And Darkness flooded the earth,

And the Sun Rises.

Yet in three days’ time, You were buried and took up Your life again,

And Light flooded the earth,

The curse was broken, And You declared, “It is finished.”

The Son rose and Darkness was overcome.

Luke 1: 78-79

because of the tender mercy of our God,
    by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
⁷⁹ to shine on those living in darkness
    and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

As the Sun Rises on this Christmas morning, let us celebrate the Light that shatters the Darkness.
