Have you ever wanted a new start in life – a new beginning? God grants us this opportunity every day the sun rises. Every day is a new opportunity to know God in a deeper way. Do we have to strive and beat our bodies in some fashion so that we are worthy of nearing the presence of God? No, God says, “While you were still sinners, Christ died for us. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” This is the new beginning of life that starts with faith in Christ and can be obtained at this very moment. Christ will never leave your side for all eternity.
The old has gone. What does that mean? Our bodies have a cancer, and it’s called sin, a hereditary condition passed down through the ages by the first created man and woman. This condition is as old as time itself, and it controls our very destiny, both on this earth and forevermore. We are so accustomed to living with this condition, we don’t even acknowledge its impact on us. Yet, sin is the very thing that distances us from God. When we place our faith in Christ, this cancer is eradicated from our bodies forever. Even if it rears its ugly head up during our life with Christ, it is immediately eradicated. 2 Corinthians 5:1-10 describes our bodies as a tent. With faith in Christ, our mortal body of sin is destroyed and replaced with a building created by God, not built by human hands, meaning our new life in Christ is transformed supernaturally and is guaranteed by the Holy Spirit.
II Corinthians 5:1-10
5 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, 3 because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4 For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 For we live by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
If you ever wanted a new beginning, God has built a house for you if you place your faith in Christ.
