Where Does Your Kingdom Reside?

Let’s go back in time – the Medieval times.  There was a kingdom, wide and beautiful as far as the eyes could see.  In this kingdom was a shining white city that was called Camelot where legends of kings, queens, and valiant knights were told and retold for centuries afterwards.

As one legend has it, there was a drifter with an unusual gift of handling a sword.  A gift that made him a decent living as he traveled from town to town.  His name was Lancelot. He was making his way down a path in a dense forest.  Among the trees was a rustling, a disturbance which silenced the birds above.  With a keen eye, Lancelot spied men dressed in black upon a hill and ready for battle.  Staying in his same position, Lancelot watched for what was to unfold.  A horse drawn carriage was being escorted by a company of knights making its way down the forest path.  Then he heard a war cry and the men in black swooped down upon the carriage with such ferocity that the horse drawn carriage took off in a chaotic rapid gallop down the forest path.  Lancelot could see the outline of a finely dressed woman inside the carriage and crying out for help as her carriage sped through the forest.  The men in black were engaged in combat with the knights of the escort so Lancelot sped after the carriage on his trusty steed.  Quickly, he was able to gain control of the carriage and rescued the woman from certain disaster but the ordeal wasn’t over yet.  Three of the men in black arrived on the scene and confronted Lancelot in sword play only to meet their own deaths.  Gratefully, the woman expressed her appreciation for Lancelot’s assistance in saving her life.  She introduced herself, “I am Queen Victoria of the City of Camelot which is ruled by King Arthur. Please join us at Camelot for I am sure the King would want to meet you and thank you personally.  Also, he will reward you for your valiant efforts in saving my life.”  So as the Queen suggested, Lancelot escorted the Queen to Camelot.

When the King heard of the events that took place during the Queen’s escort back to Camelot, he was deeply concerned for the welfare of his wife. Overwhelmed by the bravery displayed in rescuing the queen, the king offered Lancelot a position of knighthood among the other king’s knights.  Not a honor to be taken lightly, but Lancelot declined the offer.  The king rewarded him handsomely and Lancelot decided to move on to wherever the next adventure would lead him.  Staying in one place just didn’t suit his style and being subjected to a king’s rule was not appealing to him.

Why would Lancelot decline becoming one of the king’s knights?  Did he have commitment issues or was it the idea of being subjected to another man’s rule?

As true believers in Jesus Christ, we long for a kingdom that is not yet established on this earth.  We long for the new order of the new world.  No pain or suffering, No death. No disease.  No sin. Plentiful water, food and shelter. All these things are wonderful, but the best moment will be when we see our glorious King, the only King who has all authority and dominion given to Him by the One True God, God the Father.

Sadly, those people who have declined the offer of the King to join in community in His Kingdom will be destined to wander for eternity looking for the acceptance and love that can be only obtained from the One True God — so the wanderers do what’s best for them.  They wander.  Longing for fulfilment but always coming up short.

After reading this blog, have you put much thought about which kingdom you will reside in?

I pray for the wanderers that they would decide to join the King in a glorious kingdom. May they seriously evaluate their destiny with the Eternal King.

There is new kingdom coming:

Revelation 21: 1-4

21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Amen, come Lord Jesus!
