One Fine Day

Remembering the blessings of a good, good Dad:

So what’s the news about my Dad?

As a lad,

He loved to throw a line in the lake.

And for mercy’s sake,

If he didn’t stop trying to land the trophy fish.

Yet he didn’t want it on his dish.

Rarely did he fish on Sunday, as he reserved that time for church and family.

That was the kind of guy he was, who loved his family and his God.

I can tell you from experience, he didn’t spare the rod,

But in the end his three sons grew up loving God.

His wife was the twinkle in his eye.

Their marriage stayed strong throughout the bye and bye.

So why do I write about him even though he’s not here?

Because Jesus told me in my ear,

“He’s just sleeping. He’s not dead.”

Even though I can’t see him now, I have the promise to see him again.

I know I will greet him on one fine day and say,

“Hey Dad, on this time around, do you think you could put your rod away?”

Love your son,

Brian

My Prayer for You This Father’s Day:

On this fine Father’s Day, let’s lift our hands up to our Lord, asking to be picked up by our ever-loving Dad whose hands created the beauty and wonder of the galaxies and who also created the wonder of you and me.

As sons and daughters of the living God, may we bask in the presence of our Heavenly Father! Amen.
