And Then The Door Shuts…

Have you ever heard the saying, “When one door closes, another door opens”?  So what if you were on your way to heaven, the door is closed, and the only other option is the door that leads to hell?  Now, you’re not one of those people who sings the song, “In Hell, I Will Be in Good Company.”  No, sir.  You were the one who thought you were going to heaven because you deserved it. For your entire life, you were an outstanding example of what the pure essence of what a good person would look like.  You strove your entire life to earn your way to those Pearly Gates, only to find out you weren’t allowed in.  Based on this outcome, you’re upset. You say to God, “Why did you shut the door to heaven?  I have led a good life. I gave money to charity. I provided for my family. I went to church. I didn’t smoke or drink.  What else could I do?”  And God simply responds, “You never knew me.  Away with you.”

Why would God close the door to heaven on a good person?

The answer to that question can be found in Ephesians.

Ephesians 2:8-10

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

In Ephesians 2:8-10, God says that we are saved by faith and not as a result of our works that no one can boast.  It is the gift of God.  This is the gift that God offers us. For God gave up His own Son to take on the sin penalty of Death for all mankind.  God’s Son, Jesus, was the only person to ever walk the earth without sin.  Every other person who walked on this earth has sinned. No matter how good you think you are, sin permeates your entire being based on the fact that sin has been passed down to us through all generations.  Jesus was the only person who could sacrifice His life for us because He was perfect, without blemish, and God was pleased with Him.  Jesus died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice. Then He rose again in three days to be with God the Father. The free gift of salvation did cause God to give up His Son for us. The gift of God is offered to all mankind, but the gift needs to be received on an individual basis.  Confession and repentance of sins is required to lead a life of knowing God as opposed to living a life for yourself.  When true repentance occurs, the door to Heaven is wide open.  At this point, if you are reading this blog, you have the ability to choose the most ultimate gift ever offered, but know there is a point in time when God will permanently shut the door.  There are no second chances after you die to make this decision – the invitation is only available during your time on this earth.

My suggestion is that you shut the door on the devil and open the door to God as the song below states:
