There are days we as a nation never forget. As I am writing this on September 11, 2021, we remember the attack on our country that occurred twenty years ago. It totally shook every soul in our nation. For the first time in my life, I felt vulnerable to the evil that invaded our country. Was anyone really safe? Another date that comes to my mind: December 7, 1941, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated in his speech after the attack that this day will live in infamy. Within an hour of the speech, Congress passed a formal declaration of war against Japan, which officially brought the United States into World War II.
These are dates that we as Americans take time to remember. To remember the losses we suffered. These dates are important for reflection, but I believe there is a day coming which the entire human race will never forget. A day that we will remember for all eternity. The day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns to earth to reclaim his followers. On this day, believers who have fallen asleep on this earth will receive new, resurrected bodies, and believers still living will be raised up to be with our Savior. I believe we will never forget that day. We don’t know when that day will come, but I know it will be glorious. It will be the time when true life arrives—a time for new beginnings.
What about those who aren’t believers? The scripture says they will be casted into Hell where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 13:42) Here their judgement is pronounced and their sentence issued. That will be a day they will never forget. It will be a day when love left them creating a day that leads to weeping and gnashing of teeth. It will be a place where death resides. Sadly, it indicates the end of life. The evil that attacked us on September 11, 2001, will reside in this place in addition to all the evil that created chaos across our world for all time.
For those of you wondering how to avoid the coming wrath of our Lord, it’s not as complicated as you might think. The entire human race is tainted with sin. Because of which, we all deserve the penalty of sin, death. However, Jesus, the Son of God, descended to earth and lived a sinless life so that He could pay our penalty, offering Himself as a sacrifice for God’s wrath. Jesus died a horrific death for you and me, but the good news is that He rose from the dead in a glorious, resurrected body. All you need to do is surrender all facets of your life and give it up to Him. Jesus says if you lose your life for His sake, you will find it. (Matthew 16:25) To become a new believer in Jesus is more to than just repeating a prayer with no conviction. You need to have a heartfelt repentance of the wickedness in your life and a complete turnaround toward living the life that Jesus wants you to live. If today you sincerely turn your life over to Jesus, this will also be a day you will never forget, a day of rejoicing. According to scripture, you have become a new creation.
On the day of the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, I pray you will have chosen the path to life and not death. I pray you will be rejoicing at Jesus’ glorious return and not weeping. Amen.
