Uncle Harold, Welcome to the House of God!!

At your funeral service, I listened to the many stories of your kindness to those in need.  You have a great heart of compassion to the hurting, to those struggling.  I was one of those whom you touched with your generosity.  I took a job in Lincoln, Nebraska, and, after a few months, I was let go.  I had a house and family to provide for, and I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do next.  Should I move back to Kansas City or should I stay in Lincoln and try to make a go at it?  My wife and I decided to stay in Lincoln, and, through your support and the support of others in my family – plus our friends – we got back on our feet.  It’s a humbling feeling to be in need, but I accepted your generosity and am eternally grateful!

Your compassion is a gift from God, and you faithfully shared your gift with people in your sphere of influence.  It is an image of how Jesus had compassion on our lives by laying down His life on the cross to save us from certain death – death that would have excluded us from God.  Now, you have crossed the finish line of this earth and have entered the gates of Heaven.  In my mind, I see you walking down the golden street to meet our God.  There are angels, too many to number, on both sides of the street and they are clapping and singing praises to God on your behalf as you go to meet Jesus.  I imagine that my Dad is included in the group of angels cheering you on.  All to say, “Well done and welcome to your new home.”

During your funeral service, I was told that Psalm 23 is your favorite Psalm.  I have attached below a song written by Jon Foreman, a San Diego surfer guy and musician.  The song title is “The House of God, Forever,” and the song uses the words out of Psalm 23 for its lyrics.  Now that you have arrived in the House of God, a joy of expectation is in Heaven because of your arrival.
