Who Am I?

Have you ever seen a spy movie?  Where the spies have a headquarters underground with security checkpoints using your thumbprint or a retinal scan? These security checkpoints wouldn’t allow them access at these stations unless the thumbprint or retinal scan matches the spies’ identification.  Your real identity on the other hand can be more difficult to determine. Your thumbprint can’t determine what’s in your heart, mind and soul. God says we are made in His image, but, in my opinion, He doesn’t mean our fleshly bodies that house our hearts, minds and souls. In fact, Jesus didn’t have a flesh form until He came to Earth. According to Philippians 2:7, Jesus took on human form when He visited this earth, so, therefore, as God, He must have had a different form before that time.

So, if our real identity isn’t determined by physical form, how do we discover what it is?  My suggestion is to ask your Creator who wrote us an operations manual. Here is a small tidbit from that operations manual:

O Lord, you have searched me and known me!

Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!

(Psalms 139:1, 23-24)

So, if that suggestion doesn’t sit well with you, then what might you choose as another alternative?  Well, I guess you do what seems right to you.  The operations manual has a response for that as well.  See Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”  The word death in this line could be interpreted as the way without God. Since God is life and provides life, the way without God will ultimately lead to death. Now I didn’t write that line, the Creator did.  The Creator allows you choose whatever response you want to give.  The operations manual explains how the Creator set up this world, the natural and spiritual laws that govern this world.  He also outlines the consequences of not following His Word.

My heart goes out to the children of this generation who are trying to find the answer to, “Who Am I?”  Every one of us faces the journey of knowing our true selves.  When we follow Jesus Christ with our hearts, He will lead us to and through the journey of who we were meant to become, and it is a journey. We are to become less of our fleshly, sinful self and reflect more of the character of the Creator, God.  On this earth, we will not obtain the perfection of being like Jesus. Only when we see Him face to face and lose the sinful bodies and gain new ones that house our true identities will we obtain perfection.  So, as we live on this earth, we ask the Creator, is there any grievous way in me?  Please show me and lead to the way everlasting, the way to Yourself.

God doesn’t expect perfection from you in this world.  He knows this world is broken, so He sent His Son as a Savior of all mankind to draw you to Himself.  He leaves the choice up to you whether to follow Him or not.  The operations manual describes the consequences of the choice you make.  But if you really, truly want to know who you were meant to be, then the Creator will guide you into the truth of discovering your true identity, for He is the One who made you.

While you are on the journey of discovering your true self, I pray your true self will be revealed and that you obtain the peace that only the Creator can provide.
